Teaching ethnic languages in Iranian schools is priority of the Education Ministry, acting Education Minister of Iran, Ali Asghar Fani Said, Iranian Jamaran news portal reported.

He went on to note that, it is time to execute the article 15 of the Iran's constitution.
Article 15 of Iranian constitution states that the "Official language (of Iran)... is Persian...[and]... the use of regional and tribal languages in the press and mass media, as well as for teaching of their literature in schools, is allowed in addition to Persian.

Fani also underlined that some plans which started during the administration of the ex-president Mohammad Khatami (1997-2005) for fulfilling the article, were later halted.
Iranian president Hassan Rouhani emphasized previously the right of Iranian ethnic minorities for mother language education during his presidential campaign.

"I do not put differences between the articles 3, 15, 19 and 22 of the Iranian Constitution with other articles," Rouhani said on June 20.

According to him, the Iranian people is one nation, and that a person who puts differences between Kurds, Turks, Lurs, Balochis, Turkmens, Arabs and Persians, is himself not an Iranian.

In a decree issued on October 3, Rouhani appointed former intelligence minister Ali Younesi as special aide for the affairs of ethnic groups and religious minorities.

It is the first time that an Iranian president has appointed an aide for the affairs of ethnic groups and religious minorities.
