Azerbaijani e-commerce increases 1.6 times

In January-November 2013, the e-commerce market volume in Azerbaijan amounted to 2.3 million manat, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said today.

The total volume of retail e-commerce increased 1.6 times in Azerbaijan compared to the same period of last year, according to the report.

Around 83 percent of goods purchased by the Azerbaijani population in electronic form were bought by legal entities and 17 percent - by physical entities. Around 90.4 percent of the e-commerce market turnover accounted for non-food products.

The total volume of retail trade amounted to 17.2 billion manat for the period. The sales of consumer goods increased 9.7 percent compared to the same period of last year.

More than a half (51.7 percent) of this volume came from foodstuffs. The share of non-food goods was 48.3 percent increasing four percentage points.

The official exchange rate is 0.7843 AZN/USD on Dec. 11.
