Parliamentary speaker: Azerbaijan hopes Russia will increase efforts to solve Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

Azerbaijan hopes that Russia will increase its efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Azerbaijani parliament's speaker Ogtay Asadov said at a meeting with Chairman of the Russian State Duma Sergei Naryshkin.

"We believe that the conflict will be fairly resolved in the framework of international legal norms and principles of territorial integrity," Asadov said.

Congratulating Sergei Naryshkin on his election as Chairman of the State Duma, Asadov expressed his satisfaction with the fact that one of his first foreign visits took place in Azerbaijan and stressed that this serves a further expansion of cooperation between the two countries in all areas, including inter-parliamentary cooperation .

At the meeting it was noted that so far Azerbaijan and Russia have signed more than 160 documents. These documents have created a strong legal basis for the comprehensive development of relations between the two countries. The result is that the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia last year exceeded $ 2.8 billion. Today, Azerbaijan has more than 500 Russian companies. Among all the countries of South Caucasus only in Azerbaijan the house of Russian book was created. Azerbaijan pays special attention to the development of the Russian language, there are about 500 Russian-language schools.

Naryshkin emphasized the role of legislatures in the comprehensive development of relations between the two countries and noted the great potential for expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

It was noted that MPs of the two countries are successfully cooperating in the international events. The result is that relations between Russia and Azerbaijan have reached a level of strategic partnership.
