A number of major German companies and bodies, including the Eastern Committee of the German Economy appealed to the Federal Government and the Bundestag with a proposal to simplify and gradually abolish the visa regime in Europe.

The appeal stressed the importance for Germany to cooperate with foreign companies. The visa regime harms this cooperation, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Germany said.

A document is also attached. It stressed the position of the Committee of the German Economy on this issue.

The Committee in particular, emphasises that the individuals having a 'visa' for the Nagorno-Karabakh separatist regime in their passports are not allowed to arrive in Azerbaijan.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.

The document also reflects the information about the negotiations on visa facilitation between Azerbaijan and the EU.

According to the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technologies, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Germany totalled 878 million euros in January-May this year.
