The confirmed death toll from the disaster at Russia's largest hydroelectric plant rose to 64 on Saturday, with 11 people still listed as missing, a spokesman for the search and rescue team said, AFP reported.

"We have discovered 64 bodies," with 11 people still missing, said the spokesman from the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power plant in Siberia.

The catastrophe is believed to have been triggered Monday when a technical problem caused a massive surge of water in the turbine hall, engulfing around 100 workers.

Officials have said there is no hope of finding those listed as missing alive.

More than 2,000 people have been deployed along the Yenisei River to help with the rescue and clean-up operations.
