International Structure Supports Marriage among Sexual Minorities – Musavat’s MP

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I. Alizadeh / The Union of the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Parties (UELDRP) supports sex minorities in marriage and Kurd minorities residing in Turkey. The Musavat Party is a member of the organization, MP Nasib Nasibli, a member of Musavat, said. The organization has developed two documents. "It will be enough to look at two documents to become acquainted with the real essence of the Union which contradicts the essence of the Musavat," Nasibli said.

The Bill on Protection of Rights of Sex Minorities was passed during the session of UELDRP held in

Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2001. European countries are called on to legalize marriages among sexual minorities. The Bill on Protection of Rights of Kurd Minorities Residing in Turkey was passed during the session held in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Musavat made the decision to join the UELDRP during the Assembly of the party on December 23 2006. Musavat was accepted as a member of the organization during the meeting held in Berlin, Germany on 18 October 2007. MP Nasib Nasibli, a member of Musavat Party, and Rauf Arifoglu, the Editor-in-Chief of the New Musavat newspaper, said they made a mistake. Other members of the party do not protest against such a decision.

The opposition Musavat party was founded in 1992. The head of the party, Isa Gambar, was Azerbaijani Parliament's Speaker in 1992-93 and ran for President in 2003. The party is represented by an MP group in the Parliament.
