Azerbaijani Opposition Won’t Support Presidential Post Candidates

Azerbaijan, baku, 4 March / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Azerbaijani Islamic Party will not support the current presidential post candidates.

"If there is a new political force which is able to protect the national and state interest, we will support the organization," Akif Heydarli, the Islamic Party activist reported to Trend .

The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October 2008. Leaders of some Azerbaijani opposition parties confirmed their presidential post candidates. They are Isa Gambar, Musavat party Chairman, Sardar Jalaloglu, Democratic party Chairman, Igbal Agazadeh, Umid party Chairman, Fazail Agamali, Great Establishment party Chairman, Gudrat Hasanguliye, Classic Popular Front party Chairman and others.

"The Islamic party will vote for the force which will able to maintain the national values of the Azerbaijani population and improve living standards in Azerbaijan," Heydarli stated.

The Islamic party was founded in August 1991. In 1992, the party was registered by the Justice Ministry. The party's registration was annulled in 1995.
