Leading Candidate of Azerbaijani Opposition did not Gain His Counterparts’ Support

Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 May / corr. Trend E. Babayev/ Until now, not any organization has announced that it will support nomination of Isa Gambar, a presidential candidate from the oppositional Musavat (Equality) party. "Not any party has appealed us in this regard yet," Arif Hajili, Head of the Central Administration of Musavat party said to Trend .

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on 15 October 2008.

The Majlis of the Musavat Party nominated Isa Gambar, Democratic Party of Azerbaijan nominated Sardar Jalaloglu, and Green Party of Azerbaijan - Mais Mammadguliyev for the presidential elections. The political expert Eldar Namazov stated that he will be nominated as an independent candidate. The ruling Yeni Azerbaijan is going to nominate the President Ilham Aliyev for the elections in the party meeting.

According to Hajili, Musavat has its own way to attract voters dissatisfied with the Government. We are going to bring together these voters. A bloc uniting allies of the Musavat Party is expected to be established prior to the elections.

The oppositional party "Musavat" was founded in 1992. Isa Gambar, the present Chairman of the Party was the Ex-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament (Milli Majlis) in 1992 to1993 and was nominated for the 2003 presidential elections. The Party is represented by five MPs in the parliament.
