Azerbaijan, Baku, 4 September/ Trend , corr J. Babayeva/ Members of the National Euro-Integration Committee of Azerbaijan (NECA) got familiar with the problems of Azerbaijanis living in Georgia that appeared after conflict broke out in South Osstia during their visit to Georgia. "The conditions of Azerbaijanis living in Tedotsminda village of Gori region are painful after the conflict as before. At the moment they have some needs," Arzu Abdullayeva, member of NECA and head of Baku office of Helsinki Citizen's Assembly in a press conference on the results of visit to Georgia.
Members of National Euro-Integration Committee of Azerbaijan including Arzu Abdullayeva, head of Baku Office of HCA, Eldar Namazov, head of For Azerbaijan public forum, Mehman Aliyev, head of Turan news agency and Avaz Hasanov, chairman of Humanitarian Studies Society have been in Georgia from August 28 to September 2. They have meet with governmental agencies, NGOs and opposition members of Georgia. The visit aimed at rendering moral support of Azerbaijani community to that of Georgia.
NECA also rendered humanitarian aid to those who became refugees as a result of South Ossetia conflict.
Abdullayeva said population in Tedotsminda where Azerbaijanis make up majority, have problems of water supply and lack of schools. "Georgia will receive large financial aid to restore war-affected infrastructure. In a meeting with the Georgian ombudsman Sozar Subari we asked him to assist in the resolution of problems in the villages populated with Azerbaijanis," Abduillayeva said.
Avaz Hasanov, chairman of Humanitarian Studies Society said the villages populated with Azerbaijanis have suffered serious damage. "Sown areas have been burnt in these villages. As conflict coincided with the harvest, Azerbaijanis will face hardships in winter," Hasanov said.
