Georgia, Tbilisi, 29 October / Trend corr. N.Kirtzkhalia / Chief of Georgian Border Police Badri Bitsadze, Georgian ex-speaker Nino Burjanadze's husband, resigned.
"Dirty campaign has begun against me and victims of this campaign are ordinary border guards. I believe I should resign for their security," Bitsadze, said at the special news conference on 29 October.
"My subordinates at border are caught for some excess lari in their pockets. This is a direct blackmail and pressure on me to make me resign. Sometimes it was so that my border guards were given money by force," he said, stressing that the authorities could not collect any evidence against personally him.
The head of the Border Police stressed that he did many things at this position and could turn his office into the reformed body, which can protect borders of the country.
Recently, Burjanadze has made a statement that she is establishing a sharp opposition party and will struggle for victory in the elections. "I do not want to connect the current pressure on me with my husband's political activity. However, it seems that it is interconnected," Bitsadze said.
