Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 December / Trend corr. A.Huseynbala/ The Azerbaijani Musavat Party has developed a draft for large cooperation of opposition.
"We wish to
continue cooperation with political parties, joined the Centre for Opposition
Cooperation (COC) and other forces to join the Centre," Arif Hajili, the head
of the Musavat Party Central Executive Body, joined the COC, told Trend on
1 December.
The Center for Opposition Co-operation includes Azadlig bloc the (the Popular Front Party, the Liberal Party and the Citizen and Development), the Musavat Party and the Public Forum `For Azerbaijan'. At early September, these political organizations signed a joint statement on recognition of the presidential elections to be held on 15 October as illegitimate. Government to be formed after the presidential elections, are announced as illegitimate in the statement.
After elections, discussions commenced on combination of opposition in wider coalition, however, the process did not yield results due to the mutual accusations.
According to Hajili, Musavat Party has offered unification of all political forces, public organizations and even different individuals in coalition. "Lala Shovkat, the leader of the National Union Movement, offered such a model a while ago," Hajili said.
At present an issue on alliance is being discussed, a member of Musavat Party said. "We have submitted our draft to the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA). Other parties, included in Azadlig bloc, should discuss the draft," Hajili said.
The draft includes cooperation in creation of democratic conditions in the country, prevention of pressure on media, reforms in the field of the election legislation, joint activity for development of multiparty system and restoration of right of Freedom of Assembly.
Musavat Party even supports to cooperate with parties, which do not hold same position with political organization, joined the COC, Hajili said.
"It is possible to cooperate with these parties without being allies and we wish them to join the COC. However, we have not put forward it as a term," the member of Musavat said.
Opposition Musavat party was founded in Baku in October 1911. The third (restoration) sitting of Musavat party was held on 7 November 1992 in Republican Pal ace in Baku. Gambar was elected head of the Musavat party in a landslide in a secret vote.
Gambar was the speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament from 1992 to 1993. In 2003, he ran for presidency. The party is represented by 4 MPs in the Parliament.
