A new-established Azerbaijani opposition party may participate in municipal and parliamentary elections together with other political forces.
"Participation of the party in the election blocs depends on a concrete situation," Gulamhuseyn Alibayli, the chairman of Aydinlar Party, told Trend on Dec. 15.
Alibayli was elected chairman of the Aydinlar Party in a founding congress of the party on Dec. 14.
Alibayli was adviser to president Elchibay in 1992 to 1993. He was elected MP for two consecutive terms from 1995 to 2005. He has been member of Azerbaijani parliament's delegation to PACE. He has been member of Popular Front of Azerbaijan since 1989 and chairman of Supreme Majlis of Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan since 1993.
Early Aug., Alibayli resigned from this post to found new Aydinlar party at the end of Sept. Member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Nizami Guluyev also resigned following Alibayli's move.
Chairmen of Lankaran, Samur and Gakh branches of Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan resigned and joined election headquarters of Aydinlar Party early Oct.
On Dec. 14, the founding congress made a decision of the party's participation in blocs, Alibayli said. "However, our major objective is participation in the municipal and parliamentary elections and victory in them," he added.
Former members of the Popular Front Party (PFP) and Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) have established majority of the current parties, Alibayli said, speaking about possible unification of the Unified Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (UPFPA), led by Gudrat Hasanguliyev, a former member of the PFPA, and the Great Establishment Party (GEP), led by Fazil Gazanfaroglu (Fazil Mustafa). "We are prepared to cooperate with parties, whose programs coincide with ours. Hasanguliyev initiated unification of three parties. We do not exclude further cooperation with these three parties," he said.
