MSU Branch opens in Baku

The official opening ceremony of the Moscow State University (MSU) Baku Branch was held in Baku on Feb. 27.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Russian Presidential Administration head Sergey Narishkin attended the official ceremony together with other senior officials.

On Jan. 15, Aliyev signed a decree to open a MSU branch in Baku.

The branch's curriculum will be based on MSU programs.

Students will be taught by MSU staff. Graduates will receive MSU diplomas.

Each of the branch's three faculties (languages, chemistry and applied mathematics) will enroll 25 people.

Narishkin is currently visiting Baku. The visit will focus on perspectives for increasing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia, the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend .

The goods turnover between the two countries hit $1.9 billion in 2008, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee reported. A total of $0.58 billion fell to exports to Russia and $1.34 billion - to imports.
