An Iranian member of parliament refuted reports that Iraq will mediate talks between Iran and the U.S.

"During meetings with Iranian officials, Baghdad proposaled mediating talks between Iran and the U.S., but this idea is impossible at the moment," Iranian Parliamentary National Security Commission member Hossein Tagavi told Trend on March 2.

The U.S. has not officially offered Tehran to begin direct or indirect negotiations, he said.

"Two months have passed since Barack Obama became U.S. president. But in spite of the statements of officials, Iran has not received an official proposal from Washington to begin direct negotiations," he said.
