"Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is ready for TV debates with the presidential candidates. The presidential elections in Iran will be held on June 12," the Iranian President's Former Adviser and Chairman of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's People Support Committee Samara Hashimi said at a news conference in Ehvaz city on May 7, Fars news agency reported.
Hashimi spoke about the frequent change of ministers in Ahmadinejad's reign.
"The parliament did not approve powers of the majority ministers nominated by Ahmadinejad or the parliament decided to change ministers.
This took place due to Ahmadinejad's fairness and fulfilling requirements of Islamic revolution," Hashimi said. Hashimi informed about the president's willingness to hold TV debates with all candidates.
In a letter which was sent to Ahmadinejad on April 14, a former adviser to President Seid Mujtaba Samara Hashimi demanded his resignation. After resignation, he became chairman of the Ahmadinejad's People Support Committee.
Presidential elections are held every four years. Presidential candidates may participate in the elections only after approval by the Supervisory Board (Şuraye Negəhban). A person who was elected as the president receives the status after the approval by the supreme spiritual leader. A responsible person, after the supreme spiritual leader supervises over the executive staff and determines the foreign and domestic policy.
Iranian President Ahmadinejad was elected in summer 2005 and is still not officially confirmed his participation in the forthcoming elections.
So far, candidates from the reformist party nominated the Chairman of the National Trust, former speaker Mehdi Karroubi and former Prime Minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi. Former Commander of Iranian Corps, a member of an advisory council of Iran Mohsun Rezai was the first candidate who officially confirmed his participation in the elections.
