The establishment of the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Parliament "European Union - Eastern Partnership" is important to enhance and complement the EU relations with all countries of the Eastern Partnership, but not to replace bilateral relations, said Adviser to the President of the European Parliament Robert Golanski.
"European Union - Eastern Partnership" Parliamentary Assembly will do the same thing on the parliamentary level as the Eastern Partnership is doing on bigger level, on the level of countries and governments," Golanski told Trend over telephone from Brussels. "So the main thing is to step up to enhance cooperation between the European Union on one hand and six eastern countries."
Kiev hosted a meeting on establishment of the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Parliament "European Union".
Initial agreement has been reached to establish Parliamentary Assembly of the European Parliament's European Union Eastern Neighbors, Azerbaijani parliament's Law Policy and State-Building Committee Chairman Rovshan Rzayev told Trend .
Adviser to the President of the European Parliament said usually any large project is supplemented by a parliamentary cooperation citing EU's parliamentary cooperation with Mediterranean neighbors and Latin America countries as example.
From that sense "European Union - Eastern Partnership" PA is the same kind of parliamentary assembly with big foreign policy projects, he said.
Golanski said European Union - Eastern Partnership PA will compose 120 members: 60 members from the European Parliament and 10 members of the parliaments each of the six countries.
It needs to be decided who will be represented from Belarus, he said.
"It needs to be decided, who will be represented from Belarus, as in Belarus the Parliament was elected in a way which is far from the democratic standards," he said.
He said the work of the parliamentary assembly will start only after the elections in the European Parliament in June. Then euro-parliamentarians will have summer holiday.
Eastern Partnership has been initiated by Poland and Sweden as a part of the neighborhood policy which aims to improve EU relations with the post Soviet countries. Eastern Partnership will cover six EU neighbor states - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus.
Within the organization, talks will be held on cancellation of visas, introducing free trade zones and concluding strategic agreements. Projects on student exchange, protection of environment and energy supply will also be implemented.
Eastern partnership program took effect at the EU summit in Prague on May 7.
