Opposition radicals launches hunger strike before European Commission mission in Tbilisi

Several representatives of Equality Institute non-governmental organization have launched a hunger strike at the office of the European Commission in Tbilisi. Thus, the organization is trying to release its supporters, arrested during the crackdown of the action on June 15 at the Central Police Office of Tbilisi.

On June 22, parliamentarian from the majority Eka Kherkheulidze and opposition parliamentarian Dmitry Lordkipanidze visited the detainees. They said that no one has tortured detainees, but eight people were injured during the detention.

Lordkipanidze said that he intends to initiate the issue before the Georgian president on release of opposition detainees and those sentenced to 30 days.
   
Meanwhile, Public Defender Sozar Subari alleges that detainees were tortured in police custody.
