Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze does not intend to surrender his Russian citizenship voluntarily, the ministry's Press Secretary Ia Makharashvili said at a briefing today.
She commented on Russian MP Semen Bagdasarov's demand for the State Duma to deprive the Georgian minister of his Russian citizenship.
"This demand was not unexpected for the FM," Makharashvili said. "He took the news with ease. He was not offended or upset. Let the Russian side make its decision."
Media representatives asked her how Vashadze feels as a citizen of a country that waged war with his homeland in 2008. Makharashvili said Vashadze has a right to dual citizenship.
