All necessary conditions will be created to hold fair, transparent and democratic elections in Azerbaijan, all rights of voters will be ensured, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan Mezahir Panahov said at a meeting with a delegation from the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe on Dec. 7.
During the meeting the CEC Chairman informed the delegation that the CEC conducts extensive enlightenment work within preparation for the elections.
32,000 candidates and representatives of 18 political parties have been registered to participate in the upcoming municipal elections. In total, the candidates represent 30 political parties, 19.5% or 6,180 of candidates are women.
According to Panahov, today nearly 20,000 observers have been accredited and this process continues.
The delegation of the Council of Europe, led by Gaye Doganoglu, expressed confidence in conducting democratic elections.
