Azerbaijan, Baku, March 12 / Trend A.Huseynbala /
The Azerbaijani Interior Troops did a great job in the name of the state and statehood, Interior Troops Commander General Lieutenant Zakir Hasanov told Trend today.
"Azerbaijani President and Supreme Commander of the armed forces Ilham Aliyev has highly appraised their service and combat activity," the commander said.
"The troops have a high combat readiness and discipline," Hasanov said.
He added that the Turkish genderless command played a major role in the formation of the troops.
"In 1997, the Azerbaijani Interior Troops and the Turkish Gendarmerie Command signed a joint protocol on national leader Heydar Aliyev's own initiative and direction. Great work was done under the document. The Turkish Gendarmerie Command has many merits as the service and combat training of the troops is high," Hasanov said.
Turkey's Gendarmerie Command renders assistance in teaching and training officers and improving combat activities, he added.
Azerbaijan marks March 12 as the Interior Troops Day. Today, the troop's leadership and personnel visited Heydar Aliyev's grave in the Alley of Honor and Martyrs' Alley.
The troops' military units will hold events on the occasion of the anniversary of its foundation.
