Serbian President Boris Tadic will visit Azerbaijan in May, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Serbia Eldar Hasanov said after meeting with the country's leader.

The meeting took place after the ambassador was introduced to the head of state.

The Serbian president stressed importance of opening a diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan and congratulated the ambassador with the commencement of his tenure in Serbia.

Speaking about his upcoming visit to Azerbaijan, Tadic stressed that he would also be pleased to see Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visit Serbia. According to the leader, several bilateral documents will soon be signed between the two countries.

Tadic confirmed his country's support of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, sovereignty and position in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict during his meeting with the ambassador.

He also thanked Azerbaijan's leadership for supporting Serbia in the Kosovo problem.

While speaking about economic relations between the two countries, the Serbian president stressed that both countries have done a remarkable job increasing ties on the government level. He also expressed Serbia's interest in developing energy cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Hasanov conveyed greetings from Aliyev to his Serbian counterpart and informed Tadic about the political and economic situation in the country, democratic reforms, and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The diplomat also underscored that the personal relations between the two presidents and the mutual interests of both countries in establishing a basis for developing ties.

The official opening of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Serbia is scheduled for May 28. An Azerbaijan-Serbia Trade and Economic Chamber and Azerbaijani Cultural Center will also open.
