Georgia, Tbilisi, Sept.6 / Trend, N.Kirtskhalia /
A delegation of U.S. congressmen led by Senator Jim Marshall arrived in Tbilisi this morning. At the Tbilisi International Airport, Marshall expressed his condolences to journalists over the recent death of a Georgian soldier in Afghanistan.
"I am from the state of Georgia," he said. "Many young people from this state were killed in Afghanistan. But one should be proud that we are combating terrorism."
The delegation also includes senators Jane Harman (California), Peter Welch (Vermont), Charles Dent (Pennsylvania) and Cynthia Loomis (Wyoming).
During the visit, the delegation will meet with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, Parliamentary Speaker David Bakradze and other top officials.
The sides will discuss U.S.-Georgian relations, Georgian political processes, U.S. support for Georgian economic reforms, and Georgia's participation in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan.
