The border between Azerbaijan and Iran is the safest among those between Iran and its neighbors, Iranian Border Guard Commander ,General Hussein Zulfugari, said at a joint news conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elchin Guliyev, the FARS news agency reported.
Zulfugari said the fifth joint meeting of the Iranian and Azerbaijani border guards discussed problems faced by citizens of both countries.
The opening of new border points, the establishment of technical committees to address issues related to trans-boundary rivers, an increase in the number of meetings between representatives of the services to twice a year, and the establishment of telephone communication between the two countries' services to strengthen coordinated action were also discussed at the meeting.
Guliyev said the Azerbaijan will make every effort to ensure security at the joint borders with Iran and take steps to prevent illegal border crossings.
An Azerbaijani delegation led by Guliyev concluded a visit to Iran on Wednesday.
