Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a decree on preparations for the country's 20th anniversary of independence.
Independence Day is celebrated in Uzbekistan on Sept. 1.
According to the decree, the preparatory work and activities associated with the holiday will be held under the motto: "You are a great and sacred, independent homeland!"
The president instructed the Republican Commission to prepare celebrations for the anniversary.
The commission is headed by Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
A traditional international music festival will be held to mark the occasion in Tashkent. The Finance Ministry has also been charged with organizing regional-level events on independence day.
Mirziyoyev will control the execution of the presidential decree.
