Turkmenistan has ratified over 120 international instruments. About 40 human rights documents, local media reported.

The Neytralniy Turkmenistan newspaper reported that Turkmenistan adopted a number of laws that protect human rights as a part of the
ongoing legal reforms.

Turkmenistan also joined the Convention concerning the Prohibition and Immediate Action for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour, Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Convention on the Fight against Doping in Sport and Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.

Media also assess the adoption of new Turkmen Penal Code regulating legal relations in the prison system as an important event in the political life in Turkmenistan.

An Inter-Department Ministerial Commission was established to implement Turkmenistan's international commitments in the field of human rights to coordinate the work of ministries and departments on the implementation of international commitments on human rights, as
well as the preparation of proposals for implementation of international norms in the legislation.
