Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Oktay Asadov has held a meeting with Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski today, who is on visit to Azerbaijan.
Asadov said that the mutual visits of the presidents and the documents signed in different periods serve to further strengthening the relations between the two countries, the website of the Azerbaijani Parliament said.
Asadov welcomed the existence of friendship groups in legislative bodies of the two countries. He added that the effective cooperation was established between the Azerbaijani Parliament and the Polish Sejm within the EU's "Twinning" project.
Asadov stressed that the major source of tension in the region is the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. This conflict hampers the political and economic development and the integration process of the region into Euro-Atlantic area.
The Polish President appreciated Azerbaijan's achievements over the last 20 years. He said that they are the result of the economic policy.
He added that Poland is interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan in the energy sector and non-oil sector.
The sides exchanged views on prospects of developing mutual relations, searching the solutions to regional conflicts and intensifying the inter-parliamentary cooperation and other issues.
First Vice-Speaker Ziyafat Asgarov, Vice-Speaker Bahar Muradova, the head of the Parliamentary Office Safa Mirzoyev, Chairmen of the Azerbaijani Parliament's committees Samad Seyidov, Ali Huseynli, the head of the working group of inter-parliamentary ties with Poland Sattar Mehbaliyev, the members of this group - Aghajan Abiyev, Asim Mollazade, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Poland Hasan Hasanov, Polish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Michal Labenda and other officials attended the meeting.
