No opposition party will achieve anything even with weekly rallies, deputy chairman and executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Ali Ahmedov said on Thursday, expressing his attitude to active rallies of the so-called Public Chamber.
"If their objectives coincided with the Azerbaijani people's wishes, then by holding rallies they could enlist the support of the people. However by holding weekly meetings they clearly see that the citizens do not support their position. I think this is a cheap political tactic," Ahmedov said.
He said perhaps, the opposition is simply trying to encourage instability in the country.
"They want to see unpleasant events taking place, then to use them. Holding rallies is secured with the right to freedom of assembly enshrined in the Constitution and every Azerbaijani citizen has the right to use it, but I think that the abuse of that right has done nothing good for anyone," Ahmedov said.
