A goal of the military operation in the Gaza Strip is to test the foreign policy priorities of Egypt, Hamas government head in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh said, the Al Jazeera channel reported on Thursday.
He noted that Israel's operation has strengthened the unity of Palestinians and their resistance to the Israeli occupation.
Haniyeh thanked Egypt for reaching a truce and said Egypt regained its role as a regional leader.
The truce was achieved through the US-Egyptian mediation and came into force from 21:00 on Wednesday. It stopped the Israeli operation 'Pillar of Cloud', launched in response to the frequent rocket attacks into Israel and lasted a week as remote attacks were launched on hundreds of targets in the Palestinian enclave. More than 160 Palestinians were killed as a result of the operation, most of whom were civilians
