Around 12,100 New Azerbaijan Party signatures will be collected in Baku, Sumgait and Absheron for the registration of Ilham Aliyev's candidacy in the upcoming presidential elections, deputy executive secretary of the party Siyavush Novruzov said today at a workshop held in the Khatai district organization of the ruling party in connection with the collection of signatures for presidential candidate registration.
According to him, according to the Electoral Code, it is necessary to collect 40,000 signatures to register a candidate.
"The ruling party can collect up to one million signatures to register a candidate," Novruzov said. "According to other requirements of the code, it is necessary to collect signatures from at least 60 constituencies. But the ruling party's board decided to collect subscription lists from all 125 constituencies."
"The Baku, Sumgait and Absheron district organizations of the ruling party include around 200,000 members," he added. "Around 12,100 signatures will be collected from this area or 8 percent of party members."
Presidential elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for this autumn.
