CEC approves nominations of another two presidential candidates

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has approved the nomination of the chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Araz Alizadeh and the chairman of the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev as candidates for the upcoming presidential elections.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has approved the nomination of the chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Araz Alizadeh and the chairman of the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev as candidates for the upcoming presidential elections.

The meeting chaired by the head of the Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov also registered and authorized representatives of the presidential candidates.

Alongside, the August 13-14 journals were approved and the composition of some of the District Election Commissions (DECs) amended during the meeting.

14 candidates have submitted their documents to the CEC earlier.

These are the candidate of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), the party chairman, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the candidate of the Azadlig Party, the party chairman Ahmed Orudj, the candidate from the Citizen and Development of Azerbaijan Party, the party chairmen Ali Aliyev, the candidate from the Liberal Democratic Party of Azerbaijan, the party chairman Fuad Aliyev, lawyer Ilgar Mamedov (Altai), who has put forward the candidacy at his own initiative, the Umid party chairman Iqbal Aghazadeh, the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan chairman Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan chairman Araz Alizadeh, the Modern Musavat party chairman Hafiz Hajiyev, self-nominated MP Zahid Orudj, the National Revival Party chairman Faraj Guliyev and Director of the East-West Research Center Arastun Orudj as well as independents Ismail Hasanov and Elshen Yusifov.

Earlier, the CEC approved the nomination of the chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the Azadlig party chairman Ahmed Orudj, Ilgar Mamedov (Altai) and the Umid party chairman Iqbal Aghazadeh, the chairman of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Fuad Aliyev and the Citizen and Development of Azerbaijan Party chairman Ali Aliyev.

Azerbaijani citizens eligible to vote (active or passive), the initiative group of voters, political parties, blocs of political parties have the right to nominate for the presidential election.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for October 9.

The previous presidential elections were held on October 15, 2008. Presidential elections in Azerbaijan are held every five years.
