President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received President of the European Court of Human Rights Dean Spielmann Oct. 24.
Spielmann stressed the importance of the Baku-hosted "Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms on national level and the role of national judges" international conference in terms of the development of dialogue among judges in European countries and improvement of justice system in Azerbaijan.
He noted the fact that the conference is attended by a large number of judges from different countries, saying the event was of big importance at the European level.
In turn, President Ilham Aliyev with pleasure recalled his last visit to Strasbourg, and said Azerbaijan is actively cooperating with relevant European agencies, particularly during its chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, and emphasized the importance of high-profile international evens held in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan's president expressed his confidence that "Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms on national level and the role of national judges" international conference will contribute to the expansion of relations.
The parties also discussed prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Court of Human Rights.
