Those guilty of Baku high-rise fire to be punished - parliament speaker

The case of a fire outbreak in a high-rise building in Binagadi district of Baku is being investigated, and the guilty ones will be punished, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan Oktay Asadov said May 29 at a plenary session of the parliament.

He said that a special state commission set up to investigate the causes of the fire is working hard on the matter.

"The causes of the fire are being investigated, the suspects are being established," said the speaker. "The injured ones during the fire are being assisted. I am confident that defects present in this sphere will be eliminated on the results of execution of instructions of the president."

On May 19, a strong fire took place in a high-rise building in Binagadi district of Baku, which killed 15 people.

The cause of the fire was cladding of the building using low quality and combustible materials, according to preliminary version.

Six people were arrested within the framework of the criminal case in connection with the fire outbreak.
