BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 3. Azerbaijan amplifies the voices of the Comorians on the international stage, the Comoros official Zirari Madi told Trend.
According to him, Azerbaijan is one of the few countries in the world that rolls out the red carpet for countries like the Comoros Islands, who are itching for justice and have been battling against French colonization for years.
“I was born and lived on the island of Mayotte of the Union of Comoros, but now I'm a citizen of France, instead of the Comoros Islands. I thank Azerbaijan and the Baku Initiative Group for opening their doors to us and allowing us to convey our voice from the international arena. France, as we know, continues its colonial policy, but this won't last long,” he added.
An international conference, organized by the Baku Initiative Group and dedicated to the French-occupied island of Mayotte is taking place in Baku. Titled "The illegal occupation of Mayotte Island by France, Union of the Comoros," the conference is attended by public and political figures from Mayotte, representatives of the academic community, human rights activists, heads of non-governmental organizations, members of political parties fighting against the occupation of Mayotte Island by France and striving for the return of Mayotte to the Union of the Comoros, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan.
The conference is discussing the history of French colonization of the Comoros, France's occupation of Mayotte island and the resulting damage to the Comorians, the economic and geopolitical goals of France's colonial policy in the region, and the opinions of international organizations on Mayotte's place in the Union of the Comoros.
