PACE RAPPORTEURS HELD MEETING IN GAZAKH

Co-rapporteur of the PACE Monitoring Group on Azerbaijan Andreas Gross and the delegation under his leadership visited Gazakh region under the tour to the western regions of the country. Gross held three meetings in the Gazakh region, Trend reports.

The first meeting with Rauf Husseynov, the head of the Executive Power, was dedicated to preparations for the coming parliamentary election in the region. The second one with participation of the heads of different political parties was devoted to positions and problems of the parties.

Gross positively appreciated the decree �On improvement of the elections experience in the republic’ by the President.

He noted that active participation of authorities and opposition is important factor to prevent falsifications taken place in the last Presidential Elections. The exit-polls to be hold during the elections will serve to averting of negative occasions.

More than 25 representatives of the opposition parties should be represented at the parliament. The proposals were submitted to the president and the Central Elections Commission, and positive replies were received.

The third meeting was hold with non-governmental organizations (NGO). The NGO representatives expressed discontent in connection with their participation in the parliamentary elections as observers. Gross stated that he had addressed to some organizations, but did not receive positive reply.

He will return to Ganja in the evening, where 3-4 meetings of the regional representative of the Helsinki Citizens Assembly with the participation of the political parties, women organizations, local NGOs and mass media will be hold.
