The Media Council (MC) did not manage to carry out large monitoring of the media before the parliamentary elections due to finance shortage, Aflatun Amashov, the chairman of the MC, told Trend. Establishment of expert group, monitoring of over 50 newspapers and TV channels during 40 days before and 10 days after the elections and designing of daily reports require large funds.

The MC did not manage to find the sum on time. According to Amashov, despite this the MC is currently conducting small monitoring. “We permanently monitor 30 newspapers having considerable influence on public opinion. The results of the monitoring conducted by the financial support of the British embassy will be published in book form. The MC follows the reports publishing in the media,” Amashov said.

The large monitoring on the covering of the elections by the media will be carried out by the Council of Europe and the National TV Broadcasting Council.
