ELCHIN GULIYEV: ON THE EVE OF ELECTIONS BORDERS TO FUNCTION IN INTENSIFIED REGIME

At the news conference held on 28 September 2005 the chief of the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan Elchin Guliyev noted to journalists, that on the eve of the parliamentary elections the frontier will function in the intensive regime. The news conference was dedicated to the results of the third sitting of the GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) member states frontier departments, Trend reports.

Elchin Guliyev said 9 issues were discussed at the last sitting. В"We came to the opinion that based on the Ukrainian border service exercises for increase of the staff potential may be started”.

He also noted, the discussions on strengthening the fight against the international terrorism, extremism, separatism, smuggling of arms and drugs, illegal migration and other crimes and consolidating cooperation in these fields were held”.

Guliyev reminded to journalists, that 1007-km section of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and 132 km of the Azerbaijani-Iranian border are under the Armenian occupation. A lot of various crimes are committed there.
