IRI states on completion of preparations for conduct of exit poll in Azerbaijan

The Communications Center on Admission of data on exit poll during the re-run parliamentary elections on 13 May in Azerbaijan is ready to work, the Baku office of the International Republicans Institute (IRI) told Trend.

The Center will function in the office in the closed regime and receive faxes from all 10 constituencies, the same course said.

The organization work on preparations for exit poll is complete, while the results of the inquiry will be publicized in 2-3 hours upon completion of polls (19.00pm [local time] Trend).

10 election stations are selected for exit-polling at each of 10 election districts of Azerbaijan where repeat elections are taking place on May 13, 2006, Trend reports quoting employees of Baku office of International Republican Institute (IRI).

Election stations are selected randomly.

Expected accuracy of such selection is В±0 %, i.e. equal to official totals of the elections to be published by Central Election Commission.

Voters to partake in polling are also selected randomly. One out of five voters will be supposedly polled on a good will basis. IRIs questionnaires do not state name or any other personal information. There will be no video or any other data recording.

Answering the question on criteria IRI used to involve local organizations to exit-polls, IRI officials said they selected Profile organization with headquarters in Baku. On the threshold pf the poll, IRI led a meeting with all Azeri political parties participating in elections. On this meeting, IRI suggested involvement of the parties representatives in coordination of works performed.

В"Parties coordinators can help IRI select interviewers based on maximum political neutrality. They will pursue IRIs trainings for interviewers and control data collection process in IRIs head office on May 13В", - IRI officials said.

Groups of to IRIs representatives will be patrolling by polled election stations. Questionnaires are drawn jointly by IRI and Baltic Surveys, polls results interpretation will be performed by the two organizations alone.
