The Information Chief of the Council of Europe office in Baku, Ilgar Ibrahimoglu, told Trend that a delegation of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe is visiting Azerbaijan on 3 October 2006, Trend reports.
The delegation was dispatched to Azerbaijan to conduct the monitoring of municipal elections scheduled for 6 October.
The party of 9 people will visit Azerbaijan until 7 October and will include Ludmila Sfirloaga, Vice President of the Congress, Brief Foldt, Sweden, Mikhkel Yukkami, Estonia, David Lloyd Williams, UK, Veronik Moreyra, France, Paolo Rondelli, San-Marino, Antonnela Kagiolatti, Deputy Executive Director of the Congress, Caroline Martin and Konul Kochak, Secretary of the Congress.
The delegation will hold meetings with the Azerbaijani Government, the Parliament and Central Elections Commission (CEC) from 4 - 5 October. They also plan to meet with the leaders of the political parties and civil society.
The Observers from the Congress will hold a news conference on the results of the elections on 7 October.
