Mr. Bryza Discussed Issues on Energy Security and Conflicts Settlement with Georgian PM

Issues on energy security and conflicts settlement in Georgia have been discussed during the meeting between Georgia Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli and Matthew Bryza, Assitant US State Secretary, Trend Correspondent to Tbilisi reports.

Georgia is carrying out successful energy policy that have been reflected in providing the country with electric power. Georgia has commenced exporting its electric power abroad, Mr. Bryza told journalists after the meeting.

At the same time, he pointed out that there are problems in supplying the country with gas, however, US was about to render aid to Tbilisi. We must do all possible not to repeat the last year situation with gas in the country, he said. Mr. Bryza said that today active negotiations are being held for search of alternative gas sources.

Speaking about the conflicts settlement, the Assistant US State Secretary said that it was necessary first of al to restore the trust between the parties of the conflicts. He also emphasized that US would do all possible to restrain tensions in Georgian-Russian relations.

Mr. Bryza is also about to hold meetings with Georgia Foreign and Defence Minister, as well as have a meeting with Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili behind closed doors. He is also expected to hold negotiations in Sukhumi
