Germany Attaches Great Importance to Upcoming Visit of Azeri President

The Second Secretary of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Germany, Nasimi Agayev, exclusively informed Trend that Germany attaches great importance to the forthcoming official visit of the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, to Germany in mid February. The Azerbaijani Embassy has already started preparations for the program of the visit and upcoming negotiations. A meeting is planned with the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Angel Merkel. According to the diplomat, this meeting will be of proper significance. Presently Germany has chairmanship of the European Union and intends to cover all questions within its chairmanship. As one of the priorities of its activities, Germany intends activating the implementation of the New Neighborhood Policy. In this regard, Germany attaches a great importance to the development of the co-operation with Azerbaijan, he stated.

Currently relations between the two countries are developing rapidly, there is an active political dialogue and the sides expect great success from the upcoming visit.

According to the diplomat, during negotiations, attention will be paid to the economical co-operation of the two countries. During the visit, the President of Azerbaijan will be accompanied by a big delegation of the business people. During the visit, there are plans to hold a business forum in Berlin with the participation of business people of the two countries. Ilham Aliyev is expected to make a speech at the forum. The interest towards Azerbaijan is increasing in Germany due to Azerbaijan transforming into an economical leader of the region. Germany seeks for alternative energy sources, and the rich energy resources of Azerbaijan are of great interest to Germany, Agayev said.

According to Agayev, bilateral documents are not expected to be signed during the visit because recently, a legal agreement base between the two countries has been satisfactorily enriched by the signing of a number of bilateral agreements.

At present the agenda for his visit is being agreed. A number of meetings are expected to be held with several senior officials and Heads of Government of Germany. The agenda will possibly include a visit to federal lands of Germany, the diplomat said.
