Azerbaijani President Received UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative
Azerbaijan, Baku / Т corr S. Aghayeva / On 2 April, the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, met with the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on Displaced Persons Affairs, Walter Calin. They discussed the rights of the Azerbaijani persons displaced from their native land as a result of Armenian aggression.
The Azerbaijani President informed the Special Representative of measures directed to increase the social level of the displaced persons carried out in Azerbaijan. President Aliyev stated that all refugee camps in the country will be liquidated by the end of 2007. He noted that these were temporary measures, with the main goal of the Government being to return the refugees back to their native land.
Calin voiced his satisfaction at the measures undertaken by the Government, stressing that he would prepare a report on the results of his mission to Azerbaijan and submit it to the UN Human Rights Council.
