UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Speech to Visit Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / The UN special rapporteur on freedom of speech, Ambeyi Ligabo, will visit Azerbaijan on 22-28 April.
He will hold meetings with Azerbaijani officials and the representatives of national institutions and non-governmental organizations and trades unions in order to get familiar with the situation in the protection of human rights.
The rapporteur will submit a report on the results and recommendations of the visit to the Council on Human Rights for consideration.
The mandate of special rapporteur was approved by the UN Commission on Human Rights in 1993 and was extended at the first session of the new Council. Ligabo was appointed to this position in August, 2002.
