Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Alizade / The residents of buildings that are located near the building which collapsed on 28 August in Baku in Mammad Nakchivani Street state that they will sell their apartments, one of the residents, Tarlan Aslanov, said on 29 August.
According to him, the owners of the apartments in the buildings near by consider themselves deceived. "The newly constructed buildings do not meet even minimal standards," said a resident of Baku.
On 28 August at around 5pm, the building constructed by the company 'Mutafakkir' collapsed. The company's head, Asker Aliyev, was arrested for contravening article 222 (breaking safety regulations during construction and other works) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
Today the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, arrived at the scene and presented relevant tasks to investigate the reasons for the collapse.
Rescue work is ongoing at the scene.
