Azerbaijan, Baku, May 26 / Trend , A.Huseyinbala/
The Ilahiyyat (Theology) mosque, which is located near the Baku State University, does not posses the needed documents for activity.
"The University gave its permission for construction of the mosque in 1992. The mosque was not registered by the State Committee on Work with Religious Organizations of Azerbaijan," Rector of the Baku State University Abel Maharramov said.
The activity of the mosque has been suspended temporarily.
Mosque will resume its activity after acquiring the needed documents, head of the State Committee on Work with Religious Organizations Gunduz Ismayilov said earlier.
"Nothing threatens to the Ilahiyyat mosque which is located near the Baku State University," Ismayilov said during the debates on the topic "Do the recent amendments to the Law on Religion limit the freedom of conscience?" he said.
The University and citizens living near the mosque have repeatedly appealed to police and the Committee because of large quantity of people in the mosque.
According to Maharramov, the mosque uses a special amplifier during azan which disturbs classes in the University.
Maharramov said that they did not aim to close the mosque. "We want the activity of the Mosque to be legalized. The flow of a large quantity of people during azan creates certain problems. The mosque can serve believers after legalization," he added.
