The Azerbaijani and Georgian first ladies organized visits for local orphaned teenagers and poor families as part of a cultural exchange program earlier this month.

Azerbaijani First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and Georgian First Lady Sandra Roelofs have placed special importance on helping the younger generations combat poverty.

A 20-member Georgian delegation visited the Heydar Aliyev Foundation on Sept. 1. The group learned about the founding of the organization and the life of national leader Heydar Aliyev.

The teenagers visited the Old City and museums in Gala and Gobustan. They also met with their peers at Children's Summer Camp No. 1.

During their 10-day visit, the delegation also visited the Gabala, Sheki and Ismayilli regions. The guests spent time in Azerbaijani forests and traveled to historic sites.

An Azerbaijani delegation also visited Georgia. The trip started in Tbilisi where the teenagers visited a memorial to Aliyev, as well as the Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia.

Roelofs received the delegation. The kids visited local museums and also traveled to Sighnaghi, Batumi, Gori, Kutaisi and Lycani. The ancient Vardzia temple complex, Batumi's Botanical Gardens, the Tbilisi Zoo, and the new Batumi Boulevard made a special impression on the visitors.
