The number of tourists increased by 30 percent in Georgia in January-May 2013 compared to the same period of last year.
According to the Georgian Statistics Committee, the number of foreign tourists amounted to 1.698 million people for five months of this year. Around 406,555 international tourists visited Georgia only in May, while 324,379 people in May 2012. The growth was 25.3 percent.
Many Turkish citizens - 616,864 people visited Georgia in January-May 2013 or 20 percent more than the same period of 2012. For five months, the number of visitors from Azerbaijan increased by 56, from Armenia - by 77, from Ukraine - by 76 percent.
It should be stressed that 4,389,256 tourists visited Georgia in 2012, while 2,822,363 tourists in 2011.
According to the statistics data, Georgia obtained revenues worth $1,410,901 from international tourism in 2012, while the share of tourism in GDP was 6.37 percent.
