Internet TV operators in Azerbaijan will be able to arrange broadcasting in IPTV, Chairman of the National Television and Radio Council (NTRC) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ismet Sattarov told Trend.
According to the statement, some Internet TV operators in Azerbaijan have applied to the NTRC with a request to broadcast through cable television and IPTV operators.
After the adoption of the new law "On Mass Media", the population of Azerbaijan will be allowed to watch new TV channels via cable TV and IPTV operators.
According to him, the current legislation has gaps on this issue.
"Because at the time when the law "On Television and Radio Broadcasting" was being adopted, there was no Internet TV yet. So, this issue was reflected in the law "On Mass Media". If the bill comes into force, Internet TV operators will be able to acquire a broadcasting license, subject to certain requirements, and organize broadcasting in the packages of cable television and IPTV operators. This means that people will have a chance to watch new TV channels via these operators. For sure, the broadcasters should also be interested in this. Internet TV must have fascinating content so that a cable TV or IPTV operator is also willing to broadcast them," Sattarov said.
