BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 5. A total of 923,000 taxpayers in Azerbaijan owed a total of 2.3 billion manat ($1.3 billion) in taxes to the state budget as of January 1, 2023, the report of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers says, Trend reports.
The report shows that during 2023 out of 215,200 taxpayers 493.6 million manat ($289.9 million) tax arrears formed in the amount of 4.5 billion manat ($2.6 billion). Approximately, 511.2 million manat ($300.3 million), eliminated the tax debts of 210,900 taxpayers. About 674 million manat ($395.9 million), or 28.6 percent of the cancelled debt amount, fell on those debts that existed as of January 1, 2023.
Around 288.6 million manat ($169.5 million) (28.4 percent) of the increased amount of arrears for 2023 was formed as a result of field tax audits, 504.4 million manat ($296.3 million) or 49.6 percent - as a result of desk tax audits, and 83.6 million manat ($49.1 million) or 8.2 percent - according to the declaration.
Consequently, as of January 1, 2024, the state budget received 2.7 billion manat ($1.5 billion) from 96,700 taxpayers, with debts of 1.8 billion manat ($1.billion) on basic taxes, 696.5 million manat ($409 million) on interest and 275.7 million manat ($161.9 million) on financial penalties.
Overall, during 2023, receipts from taxpayers in arrears amounted to 3.9 billion manat ($2.2 billion).
