Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development Waiting for World Bank’s Assistance in Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Project

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / Heydar Babayev, the Azerbaijani Minister for Economic Development, met with Peter Thompson, the head of the World Bank Sector on sustainable development, who is currently visiting Baku.

The Ministry said that the meeting focused on the current state of cooperation and the progress in the implementation of the project with the WB's assistance.

Sixteen projects with the total budget of $450mln have been implemented in Azerbaijan with the WB's assistance and currently 18 projects with the amount of $537mln is currently under the implementation.

The minister stressed the importance of cooperation with the WB and voiced his hope that the organization will assist in the implementation of big project on the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.

Thompson informed Babayev about the structural reforms and said that the sustainable development sector was established at the bank as a result of merger of sectors of infrastructure and environment.

Over the first three days 80% of the bank's financing in Azerbaijan will fall on this sector.
