Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 February / Trend / According to the estimations of the Russian Sea Register, some 581 ships sail under the Azerbaijani flag with an aggregate displacement of 838,616 tons, Dmitriy Shestakov, the head of the Baku office of the Register said in his interview with the official press.
According to Shestakov, some 428 ships were registered, 154 were put up for repairs and 105 were already repaired in 2007. No accidents have been reported on the ships sailing under the Azerbaijani flag. "However ship-owners are concerned about the maturity of the fleet," Shestakov added.
The demand for ships is constantly increasing worldwide and costs for shipping repairs continue to rise.
